Collection: Born Sacred by Smokii Sumac

Smokii Sumac (they/he) is a Ktunaxa two spirit poet, playwright, and Cultural youthcare worker. His first book you are enough: love poems for the end of the world (Kegedonce Press) won an Indigenous Voices Award. Upon witnessing the escalation of the genocide in Gaza in October 2023, Smokii began writing poems, which culminated in the collection Born Sacred: Poems for Palestine (Roseway). They are donating all personal profits from the book to Palestinians in Gaza. Smokii lives in ʔamakʔis Ktunaxa with his husband, their cats, chicken, and a “big ‘ole Rez dog” named Kootenay Lou.
