About Us

Who We Are

Firekeepers Collective is a movement through design.

We are based on the unceded, stolen, and traditional lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

We create apparel and goods rooted in Indigenous and Palestinian - and more broadly, SWANA - resistance, solidarity, and cultural pride.

Our designs are bold, intentional, and community-driven — made to challenge colonial narratives and uplift the firekeepers: artists, organizers, and everyday people pushing for change.

We’re here to clothe the movement — not just with style, but with meaning. Every piece carries a message. Every design is a stand.

Art for the Fire Within You. This is how we protect, resist, and rise.

Our Mission

We believe in the power of community, the importance of standing together, and the beauty of Indigenous art and culture. Every purchase supports Indigenous artists and important causes that matter to our community.

What We Stand For

Our Beginnings

In May 2024 two artists Phil Gray (Ts'msyen/Cree) and Hayf Abichahine (Palestinian/Lebanese) came together, under the name Cedar Roots Collective, to launch a small run of Watermelon t-shirts and stickers in an act of love, rage, and solidarity as the situation in Gaza and for the Palestinian people continued to worsen.

What began with the two of us quickly multiplied as artists from Across Turtle Island reached out to collaborate and share use their voices to call for justice. By the end of 2024, Cedar Roots Collective included designs from ten Indigenous artists and makers from a number of Nations.

From Cedar Roots Collective to Firekeepers Collective

As of August 2025, we will proudly be using a new name: Firekeepers Collective.

This name change comes from a place of respect and responsibility. Out of care for our relations at Cedar Roots Gallery — a Vancouver-based Indigenous-owned and operated gallery with that name — we have chosen to step into a new name that reflects who we are and allows space for all of us to thrive in a good way.

Firekeepers Collective speaks deeply to our spirit and purpose. Each artist and maker in our circle tends to their own sacred fire — through creativity, story, and expression. The designs we share and the art we create are not just for wearing or holding — they are made to stoke that fire within you, too. To carry warmth, medicine, and direction into your homes, families, and communities.

Firekeeping is a responsibility. It’s how we carry forward teachings, beauty, and resistance. It’s how we stay lit in the face of darkness, how we gather others around us, and how we keep tradition alive through every act of making.

We still carry the heart of our beginnings. Our new logo continues to hold the cedar bough and the olive branch, representing the unity and kinship between Indigenous Peoples of Turtle Island and those from the SWANA region. These symbols remind us of who we are, where we come from, and the relationships we’re committed to nurturing.

Thank you for walking with us. Thank you for holding space as we grow, shift, and rise. The name has changed, but the fire is the same — and it’s only getting stronger.

With love, warmth, and deep gratitude,

Hayf, Phil + The Firekeepers Collective
